Intriguing Italy

A holiday in Italy is sure to capture your imagination, and wherever you decide to stay, there’s something for everyone. It’s no surprise it’s one of Europe’s hottest holiday hot-spots; you can take a break in a bustling city, plan an island escape, experience a cultural adventure, or kick back and relax on one of the country’s beautiful beaches. You’ll find amazing architecture, Roman ruins, rustic villages, amazing wines, and fantastic food around every corner. Grab a gelato and wander along a waterfront, or go shopping in some of the high-end shops to be found in the resorts and cities. Italy’s full of romance and iconic places to visit, such as Rome’s Colosseum, Sicily’s majestic Mount Etna and the treasures of the Bay of Naples area. For some stunning sights, head further south to explore Pompeii or the Amalfi Coast. Italy’s perfect for couples and honeymooners.

Sensational Spain

Broadly speaking, holidays to Spain are into four main areas, each of which has appeal for different groups of travellers. The mainland caters for city breaks, with culture and heritage in the big cities of Madrid and, of course, Barcelona. These are suitable for holidays of all lengths; from a weekend spent soaking up the atmosphere, to longer durations that allow you to explore the city and get out into the surrounding area.

Spain's most famous holiday resorts are found along the coast of the mainland, in areas such as the Costa del Sol (the Coast of the Sun). This name is more than just good branding. The region has year-round sunshine and warm temperatures, allowing holidaymakers to top up their tan by the pool or on the beach, before plunging into the water for a swim. Just two hours from the UK by direct flight, it can feel like a world away when you first step off the plane.

Fantastic France

Paris is one of the main attractions during holidays to France, and it's not difficult to see why the capital continues to appeal to tourists from all over the world. The city has no end of museums, including the Louvre, along with architectural wonders such as the cathedral of Notre Dame, plenty of restaurants and fantastic nightlife. However, there are many other great places to see in France, all with their own unique charm.

Bayeux, northwest of Paris, is on the Normandy Coast. Steeped in history, it is home to the Bayeux Tapestry, which documents the invasion of Normandy in 1066. In the north, there are also the D-Day invasion beaches, stunning stretches of sand which were the sites of the Normandy Landings in 1944.

Heading south from Paris, tourists will find Rocamadour, through which the River Dordogne flows, creating stunning gorges and cliffs. It's an extremely religious place as it is said to be the resting place of the Virgin Mary.

Brilliant Bulgaria

As far as holidays go, Bulgaria is on the verge of great things. It might not be as well-known as the Greek Islands or the Spanish Costas at the moment, but that’s likely to change over the next decade or so. With its gorgeous Black Sea coast and all-singing, all-dancing tourist resorts, the country has just as much to offer as its European counterparts.  Golden Sands does exactly what it says on the tin. Set in Bulgaria's wild Varna region, the resort has a Blue Flag beach worthy of the resort’s name and a host of luxury hotels – along with access to lots of Bulgaria’s best attractions. You've got highlights like a monastery carved into a cliff, natural thermal springs and the country’s only desert
